The seeds do not float

This morning, as I do 3 or 4 times a week, I went out to run.

I usually listen to the radio from my cell phone. On Sunday morning Radio3 broadcasts, after the press review and the radio journal, Music lessons, Men and prophets, The deserted island, The tongue beats, etc.

On Sundays I run for 14-21 km and because of my slowness I listen to the radio for 2-3 hours.

Yes, someone will say why listen to boring speakers talking about boring topics? I answer saying that it is better to listen to good speakers talk about interesting topics instead of listening to bad music interrupted by bad publicity!

In the program The deserted island the presenter interviewed a scientist who - as usual - had to indicate which book, which film and what music would bring with him in a deserted island.

The scientist said that he would bring with him the book The Voyage of the Beagle by Charles Darwin and he quoted the episode of Darwin trying to understand how the seeds of the plants could spread to the world. The author told Darwin's experiments and his disappointment when his friend Hooker told him that the seeds did not float, because this revelation compelled him to radically change his point of view and the experiments he was conducting.

While I kept running (I was only at the 5th of 14 km planned) I kept thinking about how many times in the life of each of us happens to live this detachment from reality that leads us to disappointment to find that "the seeds do not float".
